1.0 Introduction
Technical courses took off with the establishment of the college in 1947 and Civil Engineering Department was one of the few departments established at the inception of the College. The courses then were meant to give training to Technical assistants and Technical Officers for both government and private concerns.
The department offers courses leading to the award of National Diploma and the Higher National Diploma in Civil engineering. The department has turned out over sixty-five (65) sets of graduates to date, among whom are seasoned professional engineers, university professors, and career technocrats in Federal, State and Local Government, and many others in diaspora.

2.0 Administration.
The department is chaired by the Head of Department who is an academic Staff. Currently, the department has twenty (20) staff, among whom are seventeen (17) academic staff and three (3) non - academic staff. Under the leadership of the head of department, general administration of the department is by direct supervision, departmental meetings through Class advisers/managers, examination officers, committees, etc.
3.0 Laboratories.
The department has four laboratories, namely Soil Mechanics/ Concrete Technology, Water/ Waste-water analysis, Structures and Transportation laboratories. All the laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for teaching and research.
4.0 Academic & Administrative Staff lists.
The current Head of Department is Dr. Engr. Idowu H. Adebakin. After obtaining HND in Civil Engineering from Yaba College of Technology, Dr Adebakin went further for his BSc. (Civil Engineering) and MSc. (Structural Engineering) at the University of Lagos. He later did his PhD (concrete technology) at SRM University, Chennai, India. He joined the service of the College as a Lecturer III from where he rose through the ranks to the level of Chief Lecturer in 2015. He has published many research articles on built environment related issues in scholastic journals; he is a reviewer for some international referred journals and has served as session chairman at few International Conferences.
Dr. Adebakin has worked as consultant and project supervisor for many multi-million projects within and outside the college, including World Bank-assisted infrastructural projects. He is a registered engineer with COREN, a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), a council member of the Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineering (NIStructE) and a Senior Member of the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures, France (RILEM). He has attended many workshops and trainings within and outside Nigeria and in addition to his role as head of the department, he is also the director of the Works and Services unit of the college.
